The solution has started 4PA.
A clean and safe community for all.
Something is out of balance in Port Angeles. In fact, something is out of balance in many surrounding communities. Economic and social factors continue to push people into homelessness. Lack of affordable housing and the scourge of drug addiction just to name a few. The population of unsheltered individuals in Clallam County continues an upward trend, with several public spaces and natural areas being used repeatedly for overnight sheltering. This often results in damage to the space and/or increased safety concerns for other nearby citizens. Of course, not all people living outside are having this effect, but it is our firm belief that we have reached a crossroads. Agencies working together with clear strategy have proven to reverse harmful trends. This, along with additional shelter options, can help return public spaces to a clean and safe state. 4PA was started to play a key role in this crucial work. Cleaning our city while working to provide shelter for the homeless is possible.
Citizen driven. Privately funded.
Since our launch in October 2021, our first step was building a full-time cleaning crew. Our progress has been steady, even exceeding our goals at times. Because of the level of support we’ve received, our sights are moving towards future plans to expand the reach of 4PA. Continuing this growth will take additional funding and that’s precisely where YOU come in. Reoccurring pledges from community members have proven to create a steady income that we can budget from. This streamlines our ability to put our resources to work quickly, as opposed to lengthy grant applications that aren’t guaranteed. Even more cumbersome is navigating through slow government processes. Not relying on these channels allows for 100% of the money pledged to be put towards our cause. If you’ve been following along, you can already see how effective this strategy is. We are excited to say that our initial funding goal has been met, which we used to purchase the necessary cleanup equipment and build our initial workforce.
First funding goal: two employees + equipment
GOAL MET!!!
Second funding goal: development of the Touchstone Campus
4PA is designed to build the foundation for a long-term solution for cleanup and supporting the unsheltered in Port Angeles towards self sufficiency. Our plan has several incremental goals along the way. The first goal was to establish our cleanup crew and purchase basic safety and cleaning equipment. As you can see, we’ve hit that mark, and have moved into phase two of our plan which is the development of the Touchstone Campus. We’ve purchased the site to grow our operation and fulfill this next goal. The campus will allow us to add staff and volunteers as needed, construct up to fourteen shelters to house people on a temporary basis, plus create retail or manufacturing businesses in order to employ those staying at the campus. Our goal of 500 households pledging at least $10/month will help us sustain 4PA’s operations and enable people to find shelter. To date, the generosity of our community has been amazing, with many people even giving above our suggested pledge!
